Gulaab Jamoon

Complexity: Medium


  • 4 cups flour
  • 6 oz butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp cardamon powder
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 cups milk
  • ¼ cup condensed milk
  • 2 cups sugar syrup
  • Oil for frying


  1. Place flour, cardamon and baking powder in a bowl.
  2. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add in evaporated and condensed milk and form into a dough. Knead lightly for a few minutes.
  4. Shape dough into 2 – inch lengths resembling an almond like shape.
  5. Heat oil in pan over medium high heat. Add the dough to the oil and fry until golden brown.
  6. Toss the jamoons in the sugar syrup to coat. Let cool and store in an airtight container.
  7. For sugar syrup, bring to a boil 2 cups granulated sugar with 1 cup water until sugar dissolves and mixture is slightly thickened.
