Ready in: 15-20 minutes
- 2 ½ cups hot water
- 2 tbsp shortening
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 8 cups flour
- 1 pack yeast
Melt shortening in hot water. Mix 6 cups flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a bowl. Add the melted shortening mixture to the dry mixture. Beat vigorously. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead until the dough is soft and elastic. Use the extra 2 cups flour as needed.
Leave to rise in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth for approximately 1 hour.
Punch dough down and cut in to even pieces, forming each into a ball about 3 inches in diameter. Place dough onto a greased baking sheet. Brush dough with a little melted butter for a crisp brown crust leave to rise until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and serve hot.
