Ras Gulla

  • 3 cups powdered milk
  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 oz butter or margarine
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 knob ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 3 – 4 cardamom seeds
  • Oil for frying


  1. Place sugar, water, ginger and cardamom seeds in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Strain the syrup and return to pan. Simmer over a low heat until ready for use.
  3. Place the powdered milk, flour, ginger and baking powder in a bowl and stir.
  4. Add the margarine and cut into the flour.
  5. Add the milk and mix to form a firm dough. Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
  6. Heat oil over medium high heat (300F – 325F). Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. 7. Add balls to the warm syrup and let soak for a few minutes. Remove to a wire rack.
